I love watching bands!

Today I attended my first band competition. My son’s school hosted one for the first time so there were only 6 bands competing but I really enjoyed it. It was fun to see all the different moves each band has, their themes and props. I hope he wants to stick with band. Right now he loves being in the drumline. His band did an excellent job. It was very windy today but overall a nice day out. So we had hot dogs, pizza, popcorn and watched bands for 4 hours. (well, one hour of that was the hour I waited for it to start)img_1115-resize.jpg

Good news and bad news

I am excited that I got a long-term subbing job in an elementary media center. Since I used to be a full-time media specialist, I am happy about that. It has been a long time since I did it full-time though.

The bad news is I have tendinitis in my left thumb/wrist that is holding on. If anyone who reads this has successfully treated it, let me know. I did get advice from my sister who is a certified Naturopath. I am planning to look for some MSM which she recommended.

I am also excited because we will watch our son in his first band competition today.

Mandisa

img_1022-rs.pngI mentioned that I got Mandisa’s CD for my birthday. It is awesome! I love it. She has a fantastic voice. I was also a fan of hers in 5th season American Idol. (great year). I liked her from the time she was in the auditions and told Simon that she could forgive him since Jesus had forgiven her. (for his mean words about her size) I have also seen her in person twice and she has such a wonderful spirit and great personality. I highly recommend her CD. Here are pictures from the Luis Pulau Festival where she appeared.

The best birthday gift!

I forgot to write about the best birthday gift I got because it came the day after my birthday. It was the first day I got sick and I wasn’t feeling well at all. My son came up to me with his hands behind his back. He smiled and said “Happy Birthday”. He gave me a Mandisa CD (I had told him I wanted one. He bought it with his own money!) and a homemade card. It said on the inside, “You are the best mom I could ever ask for. I love you so much.” That made my week, my month, my year and certainly my birthday. It was the first time he did anyting like that totally on his own.  An awesome birthday gift!

First Date

Our son has his first date tonight. I guess you would call it that. He doesn’t drive yet but he asked a girl to the homecoming dance. So, he had to buy tickets, corsage etc. Actually, as the cost has added up, his view of the whole homecoming thing has gone down. But, our boy is growing up. I will be taking him to get a tie today. The only problem is he doesn’t want us involved. He won’t let us take them. (He says he’s going with a friend and his parents) Anyway, we start on a new adventure.  Not that he can start dating on a regular basis. Homecoming is just an exception. But still, everything changes. Thank you God for watching over him!

Respect yourself

How I wish women in our society would wake up and realize they are worth so much more than they settle for. God did not intend us to just be objects to use for sexual satisfaction. Yes, many women have believed the lie that this is what they want. That some temporary sexual thrill is worth the price they pay. But I believe every woman knows deep down that she wants more than that. She doesn’t just want to be some one-night stand. She doesn’t want to be liked based on how much her body turns someone on. She wants a soul connection. She wants a man to see her heart and treasure her. Perhaps women have just stopped believing that is possible. It is possible. But it may mean waiting, hoping, praying, being patient, being willing to say no to being some guy’s cheap thrill. Every time a woman gives in to the pressure of sex on a first date, sex anytime she is not in a committed relationship (ideally marriage), forced to get an abortion by those around her – each time she loses a part of her self-respect, her self-worth. She stops believing she is the treasure God created her to be. Please don’t throw yourself away! Trust God to bring the best to you. And if someone takes from you what you didn’t want to give, come to Jesus for healing. He can heal the deepest wound. Only He can fill the emptiness.

Small Groups

Our church has small groups that meet each week and help people get to know one another. We are going to be a host family this year and tonight is the first meeting. I am excited about having everyone over. If everyone comes, there would be 18 adults plus some kids. Some of us were together last year but there are some new couples. I pray we will all connect and grow together. I didn’t get too crazy about cleaning house but I certainly won’t do this much every week! But, for the first time, I wanted to make a good first impression.
