Encouragement is the Word

IMG_1851butterfly 1 Thess 5

S – “Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18

“For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11

O – Paul writes to assure us that all who believe in Jesus will be with Him forever. We will either be with Him when we die or if we are alive when He comes back, we will join Him in the air. Either way, we are with Him forever. Our job is to encourage each other with this truth and build each other up.

A – Am I doing my job? Am I encouraging others daily? Reminding them that whether we are awake or asleep, we will always be with the Lord?
P – Jesus, thank you that you will return one day. Thank you that I am yours forever and nothing can take that away. Help me live to encourage others and remind them of this truth. Help me to encourage someone today. I love you Lord.

There is Hope

grief-927099_1280

My dad went to be with Jesus in 2000. One of the last times I saw him alive was on a visit I made to the VA home where he lived in another state. I was only able to visit him there two or three times a year. He had been in the home about four years and he hated it. As a former reformatory guard, he referred to it as “lockdown”. But my mom was no longer able to work and take care of him by herself. I wanted so much to encourage him somehow and on this visit I felt the urge to share these verses:

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:1-3 (ESV)

bible-1136784_1280

Looking at my mom, he choked, “Did you hear what she said”? He was blessed and encouraged. He would not be stuck in that bed forever. Jesus was preparing a better place for him.

This world is a place of suffering. We may have moments, even days when we are personally free of suffering. But truthfully, with how the world has shrunk so that we know what is happening around the world instantaneously, suffering confronts us hourly if not by the minute. Suffering in this world is a reality and has been since the day Adam and Eve sinned.

Our encouragement, our hope is in knowing it won’t be this way forever. Even if we live into our hundreds, life on this earth is short. Those who believe in Jesus will then live with Him for eternity free of suffering. Someday, He will return to earth and those still alive on earth will see the end of evil and pain.

The tragedy is for those who never know or do not believe that Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and set us free and then enter into eternity without Him.

The longer I live, the faster the days go by. Life on this earth is fleeting. Even if I manage to have a life of ease and comfort it won’t last long.

“For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James 4:14b (ESV)

I feel it.

The longing we each have in our hearts for a perfect place free of pain and sorrow will be fulfilled in heaven.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Romans 10:9-10 (ESV)

Believe in Jesus. Believe He died for your sins and rose again.

“For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:13 (ESV)

Believe in Him and know you will spend eternity in perfect joy.

Trusting His Sovereign Power

eagle-nebula-11173_640Colossians

S – “For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting another.”Psalm 75:6-7

O – This verse teaches the sovereignty of God. He is the one who lifts up one leader and puts down another. He is sovereign over all things.

A – I know God is sovereign, I can’t say I understand it. With the current hysteria over elections here in the U.S., it is comforting to remember that ultimately He decides. Does that mean nothing bad will happen or that we will not suffer in any way? No. God will do what fulfills His ultimate purpose for this universe. He looks at all of history not just this moment. He looks at eternity. We want comfort for the moment. He wants what is good for eternal purposes. We can’t always see His purpose, we have to trust Him because we know who He is. He is holy, just, pure and good. He is trustworthy, He is love and He loves us with an everlasting love. (I don’t think this means our vote doesn’t count. God works through us to accomplish His purposes.)

P – Father, I may not understand what is going on and I may not like it but I trust you. I trust you and I pray that your will be done on this earth. May your will be done in the upcoming election in the United States. I love you Lord.

A Better Independence Day

fireworks-728413_1280

Hundreds of millions of dollars spent this month on fireworks alone to celebrate independence!

Why do we make such a big deal out of the fourth of July? To celebrate freedom!

Freedom from tyranny.

Freedom to make choices.

Freedom from oppression.

Freedom means, “Liberation from slavery or restraint from the power of another.” Americans wanted to be liberated from the power of another country.

There’s a greater freedom to celebrate!

Every person is born with a nature that chooses sin or wrongdoing. And that sin ends in death or eternal separation from God. To show us that truth, God gave us laws impossible for us to keep. The law revealed that we are slaves to sin, and therefore became a burden. Those with faith in God began to strive to keep the law but failed because to be free from sin one must keep all the law without exception.

Then Jesus came. God in the flesh came to earth and kept every single law. He lived perfection. He came to set us free from sin and death and the law. Not that we are free to do wrong things but we are free from the burden of the impossible task of being perfect. Jesus did the impossible for us.

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 (ESV)

Jesus came to give us freedom. He fulfilled the law. He gave us His righteousness. Anyone who believes in Him is righteous before God.

The day we become a believer in Jesus Christ is the day we are set free.

prayer salvation-1143598_1280

Free from the bondage of sin

Free from the payment for sin

Free from the burden of the law

True freedom.

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13 (ESV)

Do you have that freedom? Please comment if you have a question.

Free Forever

IMG_7023grace

Heavenly Father,

Before you created the world, you knew I would exist and you loved me!

When you knit me together in my mother’s womb you knew I would choose sin yet you loved me.

Thank you Jesus that you died for me knowing someday I would be selfish, unkind, unloving, willful and stubborn. You knew I would have a prideful, self-focused heart yet you chose to die for me so that I could live. You chose to take my sin and give me your righteousness.

What an astounding gift!

I could meditate on your grace forever and never fully grasp its wonder. Thank you that this incredible gift is there for anyone who will believe Jesus died for him or her.

Undeserved grace.

Life everlasting.

The guilty forgiven.

Ransom paid freely.

Free

Believe

Receive

A gift impossible to earn or deserve.

I am guilty.

I deserve death. I don’t deserve to spend eternity with you. Yet, that is what you offered me. I believed. I do believe and you will never leave me or forsake me.

Anyone who believes can have this gift of grace. Just as they are.

Praise your holy name!

Jesus, open our eyes to see your hand reaching out. Help us to believe.

What does grace mean to you?

Christmas in Heaven

sun-79052_1280

For many, there are loved ones

who will be spending their first Christmas in heaven this year.

Christmas in heaven.

Can you imagine?

Not just celebrating the babe in the manger,

but falling at the feet of the King of Kings.

Not just viewing dozens of Crèches

made of every conceivable material

but being in the presence of the Holy One,

Immanuel,

Jesus Christ Lord of Lords,

The Great I AM!

What a glorious celebration!

Our little “celebrations” are barely

even shadows of the eternal celebration in heaven.

To think that our loved ones

are experiencing the full meaning of Christmas

for the first time.

God with us!

They are now in His presence for all of eternity.

The full joy of Christmas

with none of the negative effects caused by sin.

Pure joy unmarred by selfishness, worry, stress,

materialism or worldly distractions.

Can’t you see them worshipping before the throne?

Filled with the joy of heaven.

Free from the sorrows of earth.

Living the meaning of Christmas.

We love you.

Keep celebrating and one day

we will worship there together, forever!

Death Has Been Destroyed

cross-678960_1280destroyed death

I enjoy using the SOAP (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) method of Bible Study. Today’s chapters have some powerful truth:

S – “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” 2 Timothy 1:9-10 (NIV)

O – What powerful truth in these two verses! He HAS saved us – a done deal not because we deserved it or did anything but just because of His own grace. He has called us to a holy life, a set apart life. He gave us this grace, this unmerited favor, this unearned pardon BEFORE the beginning of time. BEFORE creation! It was a done deal before He ever said “Let there be…” The truth was revealed when Jesus appeared on earth. Jesus came and destroyed death He DESTROYED DEATH!

Isn’t that what every human being has wanted who was ever born?

He brought life and immortality – He brought the truth of eternal life to light when He lived out the gospel.

A – Death is not real. It has been destroyed. We are rescued. We are free. We just have to believe and trust Jesus. Death appears to be real. Death seems to have victory. But we have to look at what is unseen. We have to in faith believe that this enemy no longer has power. We may have temporary separation on earth but our loved ones in Christ will never die! This grace is found in Christ Jesus.

We must seek Him while we can! (please click for more info)

Someday we will see that this life was a mere second in all of eternity.

P – Thank you LORD God for saving my soul! Thank you for giving us grace before you even created the world! You are an amazing wonderful Father and God! I love you and I want you to have all of my heart and soul.

Please let me know below if you have a comment or question.
