S~ It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain in the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:44-46 (NIV)

O~ When Jesus died on the cross, the curtain in the temple that kept people from the Holy of Holies where God’s presence was at was torn in two from top to bottom (Matt. 27:51 – in other words, no man could have done it)

A~ I love that God put this verse in the Bible and told us this happened. It is such a significant event. Before this, only the High Priest could enter here and he could only go in once a year. If anyone else were to enter, they would die. God’s presence was in the Holy of Holies. When the curtain tore from top to bottom, this was God’s way of saying there was no longer anything keeping us from His presence. Now anyone can enter into His presence through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus was a perfect sacrifice, sinful man can come directly to the Lord God. What a gift! The veil is torn. We can know God.

P~ Jesus, thank you for dying for us. Thank you that we can now come directly into the presence of our Father. Please help me not to take that for granted. Nothing separates me from you. Praise your Holy Name!
