“Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!” Micah 7:19 (NLT)
Can you imagine sailing over the deepest part of the ocean, throwing in a coin and then coming back later to find it? Once it is thrown into the ocean, it is gone. What a glorious word picture in Micah 7:19! Micah is speaking of things to come. He is prophesying of the future when God would use the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to trample our sins and get rid of them forever. Forever! Once forgiven, always forgiven. And as Corrie Ten Boom used to say, he puts up a sign that says, “No fishing!” I was recently in Jamaica near the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, which connects to the Atlantic Ocean.
Just seeing one small part of that huge body of water makes one feel small. The thought of trying to find something in the ocean is overwhelming. God gave us that word picture to show us that when the blood of Jesus cleanses us of our sins, they are gone. They are paid for. They are washed away. We cannot find them even if we looked. “Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!” Psalm 32:1 (NLT) When we fully comprehend the forgiveness and grace of God, we will be filled with joy! Thank you Lord!
